>> homeland security secretary, janet napolitano testified today at a senate hearing about terrorism and national security. here is part of that hearing was her opening statement. first, we'll hear from senator joe lieberman of susan collins. >> obviously we hold this hearing today, still mourning the deaths of the american ambassador to libya, chris stevens and three other state department personnel. still speaking personally, infuriated by those attacks that resulted from a movement against what i too believe a terrorist act against our conflict in benghazi. on the 11th anniversary of the attacks of september 11. these attacks do many things, but they remind us i think first of the bravery and commitment of government officials who serve in countries around the world, supporting the struggles of people in those countries to live free. and by doing so, we are to improve our own national security. the attack and libya also reminds us that even though the core of al qaeda has been seriously weakened, we still face drive from an evolving and fractures that are terrorist groups and indi

[applause] because you see, america and israel have a commonality of interest. too much blood has been shed. too many lives have been given to sacrifice their freedom of speech and freedom of religion and what we stand for here in

secretary napolitano of homeland security probably wouldn't put it the way i would put it but what i am going to tell you now i think is a very fair assessment of what she has said publicly. future al qaeda attacks against america are going to be less well organized, less complex, less likely to succeed, less lethal if they do succeed because of this, because of hayden's left arm. they are going to be less likely. .. because i can move it. i can push it down. i can actually work to make this less likely than it is today. but the question i have for you is, what of your privacy? what of your convenience? what of your commerce do you want to give up? as i push the arl down. i'm not a free agent here. i'm your servant. you have to give me some guidance. candidly how much do you want to take off as you go through the line in the airport? what we need as a nation going forward is to continuation of the very tough, sometimes overly bitter conversation we've had to get us here. do you want us to get more likely to do this? or are you willing to live with that? and if you've willing to live
